Frequently asked questions
What is an Inner Line Permit (ILP)?
An Inner Line Permit is an official travel document issued by the Government of India that allows Indian citizens to visit protected or restricted states. Arunachal Pradesh is one such state — you cannot legally enter without a valid ILP, regardless of your age or purpose of visit.
Which districts of Arunachal Pradesh require an ILP?
ILP is required for the entire state of Arunachal Pradesh — every single district. Whether you're visiting Tawang, Ziro, Mechuka, Pasighat, Namdapha, or Itanagar — you need an ILP. Make sure you list all districts you plan to visit in your application.
Who needs an ILP for Arunachal Pradesh?
Every Indian citizen who is NOT a permanent resident of Arunachal Pradesh needs an ILP. This includes tourists, business travellers, students, and even government employees visiting on personal trips. There are no exceptions.
What documents do I need to apply?
You need two things — a valid government-issued ID proof (Aadhaar card, Voter ID, Passport, or Driving License) and a recent passport-size photograph. Both can be uploaded directly on our application form as JPG or PDF files.
Do children need an ILP too?
Yes. Every person entering Arunachal Pradesh — including infants and children — needs a separate ILP. We process family applications together so you don't have to apply individually for each member.
How will my ILP be delivered to me?
Your ILP will be sent directly to your WhatsApp number and email address. You will receive a PDF document which you can either save on your phone or print before travelling. Both digital and printed copies are accepted at checkposts.
Can I extend my ILP if I want to stay longer?
Yes. ILP extensions are possible and can be done at the District Commissioner's office in the district you are visiting. We can guide you through the extension process remotely via WhatsApp if needed.
Do foreign nationals need an ILP?
No. Foreign nationals do not get an ILP — they require a Protected Area Permit (PAP) instead, which is a different document with a separate process. Contact us on WhatsApp and we will guide you through the PAP process.
Still Have a Question?
We have answered hundreds of ILP questions over the years. If yours isn't here — just ask. A real person will reply within 15 minutes.
